Cristo risorto

CASTIGLION FIORENTINO

The first statue of the Risen Christ was created by Francesco di Salvestro Pasqua of Castiglion Fiorentino for the Company of the SS. Trinity, but as Ghizzi reminds us, it was a "rough and poorly made" statue and did not inspire devotion, so much so that a few years later a new statue was commissioned from Niccolò di Smeraldo Salvi, who had also sculpted the Christ beaten at the column. The old Christ was donated to the Capuchins of Lucignano. Even today, the statue is carried in procession by the Brothers of the Society of Jesus during the "Volata," which takes place on Holy Saturday at midnight.
